Chapter 6: Lamb of God Day 5

Praying the Name:

Exodus 12:12-13 - ‘For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord13 Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.

Exodus 12:21-23Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Pick out and take lambs for yourselves according to your families, and kill the Passover lamb. 22 And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning. 23 For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you.

Revelation 5:6-10 nd I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. Worthy Is the Lamb Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll,  And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, 10  And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.”

Father,

I thank You and praise You for loving me enough to use Your Son's life to set me free from sin and save my soul. That I might not die spiritually and might live for all eternity with You. I thank and praise You for always standing with me and for the love and protection which You give.

I thank You for being my safety and that You protect and love me and keep me with You. I pray for Nana that she would see a need for You and start studying the Bible again too. Give us both the desire to stand for You again even if we do it from home. Prepare our hearts for Your love and take care of us here, allowing our house to serve as a home until You give us another here, or home in heaven.

Father forgive me if I am not living my life for Christ. If I am not doing what You desire for my life, give me the strength to do what is right. If I am supposed to be involved in church then give me the desire to go on a Sunday and not a Monday. I cannot leave the house on my own, so You have got to work through me.

I ask that each day will be filled with hope and trust in You and that I would strive to hold onto You and desire to do what is right in Your eyes for me. I need help with that Father.

Father help me through the goodness of our lives to lean on You for all things and please help nothing else to break down. Please take care of us and get us out of this house and life.

In Jesus Name,

    Amen

The book of Exodus talks about a security system, one that does not have codes, or warning signs, but one far more effective than those designed by humans. Prior to their Exodus from Egypt, God told Moses to instruct the Israelites to smear the blood of the Passover lamb over their doors, any home that was marked with the blood of the lamb would be spared the judgement that was coming over the Egyptians. Stopping to judge only those doors that were unmarked, the angel of death would Passover their doors so marked. The Egyptians would lose their first born as a punishment for not heeding what God had told them.

Why did God insist on a visible mark to separate His people from the Egyptians? It was His people that needed this sign of His protection from the plague. What does this ancient story have to do with us today?

Last night I woke with a troubling thought, I was thinking about death and how young or old we are heading towards it. Nothing on earth, is strong enough to halt its advance, not science, or money or love. We act as though there is no such thing of death. but we are headed in that way.

What if the Exodus story tells us something of our own future? What if it points to another Passover lamb, to Jesus of Nazareth who was killed shortly after celebrating the Passover meal with His disciples. What if it is His blood that marks us, that sets us apart as God's people so that when the Angel of death passes over us at the final judgement, we will experience not death eternally but life forever.

Indeed belonging to Jesus, the Lamb of God is the only security system capable of protecting us from death. It is the only thing that gets us away from a future that would lead to destruction.

Because of the death of the Lamb, we can live forever in perfect peace and joy. This is the hope we share, believing as we do that because of Jesus living in us the Father will one day raise us up to live with Him to a place that is eternally secure.

Take a moment to close your eyes, and lift your heart to Jesus who is the Lamb. Imagine Him slain for you. Now picture Him alive again standing next to God's throne in heaven. What do you see? What does He say? How do we respond?
