Chapter 6: Lamb of God Day 4
Praying the Name:
Genesis 22:6-13 - So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together. 7 But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the Lamb for a burnt offering?” 8 And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” So the two of them went together. 9 Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood. 10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” So, he said, “Here I am.” 12 And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” 13 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So, Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son.
Father,
Today I want to Praise and Thank You for Your Mercy that You give to us as we do not deserve Your mercy or love, but You give both freely to those who follow You. I ask that You stand by and hold onto us with that mercy in our hearts. Help us then to give mercy to others.
Thank You Father for providing the sacrifice that we need to make us whole. that You sent Your Son to pay our debt to the life You have given us when we could not pay that debt ever, but You provided for us and gave us what we needed to stand in You.
I ask forgiveness for all the sins that I have done, I ask that if there is any way that Beth can forgive and be friends that You take care of that. I am sorry that I need a sacrifice and to be forgiven. I am sorry that I need Your mercy and forgiveness all the time, but I thank You for forgiving me and standing me up to go again.
I need my eyes more open to what Jesus has done. Please not through hardship but through love show me that I have received this that Jesus has done and help me to appreciate it for what You do.
I thank and praise You for being willing to spend that last drop of blood on the cross to save me. For the willingness of Your love towards someone that does not deserve heaven and did nothing but cause pain all her life. I am sorry Father for all that I did and the things that I have thought through. Forgive and install in me Your love for others.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
One boy nearly gave His life, you probably remember it, its the story of Abraham and Issac, and how the father was going to sacrifice the son, do you remember the scene on mount Moria when Abraham was gathering wood for the burnt offering? Issac turned to him and asked, 'father, yes my son, Abrham replied, the fire and the wood are here but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?
Abraham replied 'God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering my son.' And God did, in the last second when the father was about to plunge the knife into the son the Angel of the Lord told Abraham to lay down his knife and spare the boy. Then Abraham noticed a ram caught in the thicket and offered him in place of his son. God had provided just as Abraham said that He would.
God's provision extends beyond that provision, beyond that father and son, according to tradition the temple of God in Israel was built on that mountain of Moria where Abraham nearly sacrificed his son, the temple was only a short walk from where Jesus, the only Son of God was sacrificed for our sins.
The next time you are tempted to wallow in guilt over some sin or failing, remember that the Father has paid a high cost to redeem you. Do not make the mistake of acting as it was not enough, instead, ask God's forgiveness and then turn your thoughts to the Lamb that died to save us.
