Chapter 20: Son of David Day 3

Praying the Name:

Psalm 110:1 - The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”

Mark 12:35-37 - Then Jesus answered and said, while He taught in the temple, “How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David? 36 For David himself said by the Holy Spirit: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” ’37 Therefore David himself calls Him ‘Lord’; how is He then his Son?” And the common people heard Him gladly.

Father,

I praise You for reigning over all earthly power. I praise You for holding all of life in Your hands and being in control even when the world seems to be out of control in our lives. I pray that you will continue to direct all for Your coming to take us home to Your home above that we might know the power of Your might to take us out of Your world and bring us home to Your heaven. You reign all and can bring us home.

Thank You for ruling this crazy world that sin has all but destroyed, come quickly so that the world that You rule can soon become the paradise that it is meant to be. I pray that as You rule that You give us the actions and words to bring others to You. Please help us to stand for You and bless You in our lives and the lives of our friends.

I confess that I am not able to go to church, I feel powerless against the desire to just stay in the house and not be out there in the world. I confess to the fear of the outside world and the desire to hide away in my house and in my world I create. I pray that those changes You might have a change for me that I embrace and do as You want in my life. Give me the inner strength to stand for You.

I desire You to rule over any area of my life, that I will put down the control hold I have on my life and walk away from the devils hold on me that I can do what You desire of me most and still feel like I have the life that is comfortable. I do not want to be around people. I am happy here in my world. Please allow me to keep that safe feeling in whatever You ask from me.

We have a deeply rooted desire for a leader so powerful and wise that he or she can solve the deep problems in our world. In Israels case this desire expressed itself in the longing for a Messiah the descendent of the great king David, which would drive out their persistent enemies and restore the nation to its former glory. When people cried out to Jesus as the Son of David they were trusting their faith that He was the long awaited promised Messiah. But what the people did not understand was that they did not need just another David, but someone far greater. They dreamed of a military leader who would drive out the Roman overlords not realizing they needed a Savior who would drive out their sins. They longed for political power to restore the kingdom of Israel to its former glory. Never reflecting on the fact that Israel even at its peak had never been more than a very small nation, which  had flourished as a united nation for only 120 years. Equivalent to something like a millisecond in the scope of human history. Nor did the people of Jesus day understand that David's son would exceed David in all things. He would inaugurate a kingdom that extended out over the whole world. and one that every trace of sickness and death would be driven out. A kingdom in which the lion and the lamb, the poor and the rich, the great and small would lie down together perfectly forever at peace.

Today as you read the headlines or watch the nightly news, remember that it is important for us to pray for our nation and our political leaders. We should regularly ask God for wise and humble leadership for men and women that hunger for justice, and who are eager to peruse peace. Remember too we need more than good leadership, we need our sins forgiven, our relationships healed, our sickness overcome, our selfishness defeated, we need Jesus. the only king that is able to drive out our worst enemies, and bring us together, from every tribe, and tongue, and nation, into a kingdom which will endure forever.
