 Chapter 22: Son of God, Son of Man Day 4

Praying the Name:

Matthew 27:41-43 - Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the [a]scribes and elders, said, 42 “He saved others; Himself He cannot save. [b]If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe [c]Him. 43 He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’ ”

Matthew 27:50-54 - And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, 52 and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.54 So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

Deuteronomy 33:27 - The eternal God is your refuge, And underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, And will say, ‘Destroy!’

Father, 

    I praise You for sending Jesus down to us, for all the things He did and did not do so that He could die in our place. I praise You for loving us so much that You sent Him here for us. 

    I thank You too for being my Father and allowing me to come to You as Your child. I am so blessed that we can have a relationship with You and spend time working for You and being loved by You. 

    I have faith that Jesus is the Son of God and that I am Your child. I pray that You help me to bring others to that faith too. Help them find You in a real way. 

    I ask that You deepen the meaning in my heart of what it means to be Your child and to bring others to You as well. I want to deepen my soulship with You. 

    

    Have You ever played a game where you let yourself fall backwards into someone else's arms? It is difficult to trust that the other person is there to catch you, you look back to make sure they are prepared. What about standing over and open grave and you are supposed to fall back into it. Your friend says that they will be there to catch you and you have to do two things.  Your trust in your friend, and your trust that the friend will keep his promise. 

    Jesus must have felt a lot like that. Though He was God He had to fall in and die as a human being and trusting that the Father would raise Him up. He had total trust in His Father because He was a part of Him. Jesus had to be truly for sure of His identity of being God's Son. In fact Jesus only called God by one name that was Father, except once when quoting a Psalm.

    Jesus reason for being crucified was one thing, for claiming to be the Son of God. When Jesus died, the earth shook and those around Jesus cross exclaimed that surly He was the Son of God.  

Matthew 27:54 -So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

    Abba was a baby word, a daddy word and Pias Jews would have been so upset at Jesus use of that word for God. This is how Jesus wants all of us to think of God hear what Paul says to the Galatian Christians.  

Galatians 4:6 - And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, [a]“Abba, Father!

    Your Father already knows what you need before you ask Him. This is how you should then pray, Our Father which art in Heaven. What good gifts does your Father in heaven give? If you forgive those that sin against you then your Father in heaven will forgive you. 

    Because of what Jesus has done for us we too have become children of God. We have Jesus as our brother, As our Father, we know that no matter what we are protected by the everlasting Fathers arms and He will hold us up when we are suffering if we turn to Him.
