 Chapter 26: I AM Day 4

Praying the Name:

John 14:1-6 -  “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many [a]mansions; if it were not so, [b]I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Lord,

I praise You God for giving us the opportunity to take Your way back to You that we are not forever lost but are able to find You for Salvation and life. You have given us that direction and desire.

Thank You for leading us to the truth and for giving us a desire to know and love You deep down inside, I pray that You give us the desire to continue following You and to make more our of Your Word and life. Please bring us closer to You and give us a true thankful Spirit to follow Your leading.

Forgive me for the half-truths and lies that I have allowed in my life and for the things that I am not but live that I am. I pray that You will stand with me in truth and life in my life and forgive me for any sins that I have done so I can start with a clean slate in heaven.

I pray for love and recognition of the truth of You and all the truths that You have me learn and grow in. I thank You for my life and pray that You keep us going. Take us together and give us Your life.

We sometimes speak of people who lack faith as lost, which sounds aptly of those who feel aimlessly adrift in a meaningless world. But faith changes us belonging to Christ, gives us a sense of identity and purpose we become grounded and we know who we are and where we are going.  As Paul says, in Him we live and move and have our being,

Acts 17:28 -  for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’

Jesus alluded to this as He replied to Thomas's question, about the way to the Fathers house, instead of saying I know the way Jesus declared "I AM the way" He is not then a kind of Lewis and Clark, leading us on a path He has discovered in the wilderness, He Himself is the path. Jesus also declared 'I AM the truth' He did not say I know the truth or teach the truth, where of course He did, the Biblical idea of truth is that of a reality which is solid, stable and reliable, something strong enough to support you. Jesus is all of these things. He is also the truth that wants to challenge the lies that we believe it is no wonder His public ministry lasted so short of a time. It is hard for people after all to stand so much truth,

Our problems with truth began when our first parents were guiled by the serpent, 'you will be like God', when they embraced the lie and ate the fruit they found out how very unlike God they were, they became broken, alienated, unreliable, weighed down by sorrow, Jesus tells us instead of a beguiling lie, stark truth, self sufficiently  will land us in hell. ignoring God will defeat us, going our own way will destroy us, 'apart from me you can do nothing' He said, if you do not remain in Me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers, such branches are picked up thrown away and burned,

John 15:5-6 - “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

Either we build our lives on the Truth personified or we build our lives on something that will not hold us up.

A life that is not built on Christ, may look normal for a while, but underneath a threat is growing, sooner or later the whole structure of the life will collapse, join me today in asking Christ for the grace to reject the beguiling lies of our culture, that sexual gratification is all important, that life is about the pursuit of money and success, that the individual  reigns supreme,

Let us remember the words of St. Paul, who urges us to set our hearts on the things above, where Christ is, remembering when Christ who is our life appears we too will appear with Him in glory.

Colossians 3:1-4 -  If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
